The internationally famous artist Ermonela Jaho, in an interview given to Rebecca Schmidt in the NYTimes, has spoken about her role which has already made her known worldwide, Nedda, the main female character of "Pagliacci" by Leoncavallo.

As she prepared to bring back to the big stage at London's Royal Opera House once again the protagonist of the world-famous work, the soprano reveals to the New York Times a part of her more sensitive side.

"If you don't cry, love and smile yourself, you can't give anything to the public," says Ermonela Jaho, among others.

Unfortunately, the soprano gave up on staging her role this time, announcing that due to some health problems she stopped rehearsals in London after doctors advised her to take a break.

The Albanian soprano has won the public for herself on both sides of the Atlantic. Her latest role is Nedda in Leoncavallo's Pagliacci at the Royal Opera House. She has sung the role 301 times to date and describes Violetta as "like a dream for my voice".

"She is strong enough to fight to the death for her freedom," Jaho said in a phone interview. "She never loses the light within her."

The 48-year-old Albanian soprano has won the public for herself with the depth and authenticity of her interpretations, but especially in the realization of works such as "Verismo" by Verdi and Puccini.
