Eurovision final today / Why Ukraine could be the winner

Eurovision final today / Why Ukraine could be the winner

The Grand Final of the Eurovision Song Contest will be held tonight in Turin, Italy.

In anticipation of the final, musicians from 25 countries will compete on Europe's biggest stage, but only one group is in the spotlight: Ukraine's Kalush Orchestra.

The folk-rap group are the main favorites to win, as can be understood. Just their presence at the festival is a plus. In fact the group of boys wanted to stay on the war front and not join the festival, given that their country has been occupied since February by Russia.

However, their task was to represent their country, albeit in difficult conditions.

"As we speak, our country and our culture are under threat. "But we want to show that we are alive, Ukrainian culture is alive, it is unique, diverse and beautiful," Oleg Psyuk, one of the group's sons, told CNN.

Even their departure through the corridors and between the bullets, to get to Italy, was not easy.

Many people on the network say they are almost certain that their sacrifice to be at the festival was worth it and that they will be the winners. If that happens, it would be Ukraine's third victory, after 2004 with Ruslana "Wild Dances" and 2016 with Jamala "1944".

It would not even be the first time the winner would be of political importance. Suffice it to recall the winner Israel in 2018, during a tense situation between Israel and Palestine. Or the victory of Italy last year, the European country that had the biggest losses in life during Covid.
