300 years of Viking fame in history and their extinction

300 years of Viking fame in history and their extinction
The Vikings first appeared in June 793 CE They landed on a small island called Lindisfarn in England. Their savage appearance preceded the massacre they committed in the fight with swords and axes against the monks they found in the monastery. The robbers looted the monastery's gold, silver, jewels, and other possessions. Then they headed back to the North Sea and disappeared.

So great was their echo that in England the prayer was repeated: "Save me from the fury of the Vikings, O Lord."

But where did the Vikings come from? Why did they disappear after the fame they had for 3 centuries?
In many history books they will be known as farmers and plunderers. The ancestors of the Vikings were Germanic peoples who, about 2000 years before the Viking Age, began to migrate from Northwestern Europe to Denmark, Norway and Sweden, that is, to Scandinavia.

Like their ancestors, the Vikings were farmers, even those who took part in the plunder.
They are also known to be quite fond of wealth and the desire to have many children of a large family. The Viking ship is also very famous. The tool which helped them to make their robberies surprising.

After a while the Vikings of Denmark and Norway arrived in the British Isles no longer as groups of plunderers, but as armies with small fleets. However they failed to penetrate into the south of England, the Saxon king Alfred and his followers repulsed them.
Their journey continued to the heart of Europe, Spain and Portugal. They also plundered North Africa, and although they already had enough valuable goods on board, they continued on their way to Italy and plundered Pisa and Lina. They continued with other countries like Iceland, Greenland and New Found Land.
Among the most famous Viking leaders was Eric of Ku qi who formed a colony in Greenland. Another Viking created by the colony was Bjarni Herjolfson, who is said to have been the first to see North America as well.

End of Viking Age

Three centuries of Viking history are filled with events. Still, the image of the Vikings as nothing more than looting barbarians wielding swords and axes is not a complete picture.
They also showed that they were people who adapted, colonizing distant lands over time and even making local culture their own. As farmers they took root in permanent settlements and as rulers sat on foreign thrones.
Yes, the Vikings showed that they were masters not only of navigation and the sword, but also of plow and politics.
