Fire in Sazan / Greece sends plane to Albania to extinguish the flames
After a 48-hour operation to control and extinguish the fire on Sazan Island, air intervention was deemed necessary.
For this purpose, a Canadair CL 415 aircraft coming from Greece is activated today, early in the morning to extinguish the fire from the air on the island of Sazan. The Canadair CL 415 aircraft will enter the air firefighting operation in support of the European Union Civil Protection Mechanism, Emergency Response Coordination Center (ERCC), following a request made by the National Civil Protection Agency. Greece immediately responded positively to Albania's request.
The experts assessed that the intervention from the air is necessary to extinguish the flames in a very difficult terrain, where despite the tireless work of the ground forces it has not been possible to isolate all the hearths. Despite air intervention, fieldwork, the creation of deforestation belt remain essential for total fire isolation in an area of ??the former military unit.
The Canadair CL-415 aircraft is specifically designed for firefighting from the air, but it can also perform various other roles, such as search and rescue and transport.
The Minister of Defense Niko Peleshi, who is on an official visit to Greece, after a series of contacts thanked the authorities there for the timely response to Albania.
