Yuri Kim with KPC commissioners: Vetting process to be free from unnecessary pressure
US Ambassador Yuri Kim, after visiting the SPAK, met with the commissioners of the Independent Qualification Commission who perform verifications for judges and prosecutors in the country. He posted a photo showing the commission members of the KPC as he wrote that they had managed to expedite the verification of judges and prosecutors. However, the ambassador calls for the process to be free of unnecessary pressure, including attacks on commissioners. He does not mention concrete cases but says that Albania needs a system of professional justice, away from corruption: Not only because it is a condition to become part of the European Union, but also why the Albanian people deserve this and nothing less!
"I met with KPC commissioners to thank them for speeding up the vetting of judges and prosecutors, despite the challenges. Vetting with integrity and independence is the foundation of justice reform in Albania.
The process should be free from unnecessary pressure, including attacks on commissioners. Albania needs a professional, efficient and corruption-free justice system - not only because it is essential for EU accession, but because the Albanian people deserve it and nothing less. "The United States will continue to strongly support the implementation of justice reform, including vetting."
