Sam Altman leaves OpenAI, Mira Murati is appointed Interim CEO

Sam Altman has been fired as CEO of OpenAI, the company announced Friday. Mira Murati, the company's chief technology officer, will serve as interim CEO.
The company said it conducted "a consultative review process" and "concluded that he was not candid in his communications with the board" and that it no longer has confidence in his ability to continue leading OpenAI.
Mirati has been a member of the OpenAI leadership team for five years. According to the company's announcement, Murati has played a critical role in the evolution of OpenAI into a global AI leader.
"Given her long tenure and close engagement with all aspects of the company, including her experience in AI governance and policy, the board believes she is uniquely qualified for this role and anticipates a smooth transition uninterrupted while it conducts a formal search for a permanent CEO," the company said.
