The draft law that paves the way for abortion over the age of 16 and without

A new draft law on sexual and reproductive health paves the way for allowing abortion even for minors in the 16-year-old age group. According to Article 12 of this initiative, for termination of pregnancy, teenagers can have an abortion even without their parents' knowledge.

The initiators argue that the minor may experience domestic violence if it is known that she is pregnant.

Abortion is also allowed in the case when a woman is more than 14 weeks pregnant and within 3 days when the doctor determines it.

"Unmarried minors over the age of 16 can give their own consent to the voluntary termination of pregnancy, but at least one of the parents or the legal guardian must be informed of her decision. This notification will not be carried out if the minor has convincing reasons that the notification will lead to a clear risk of domestic violence, threats, coercion, mistreatment or abandonment", says the Ministry of Justice.

Abortion is allowed to be performed only in state health institutions and licensed clinics. Likewise, the specialist obstetrician-gynecologist, at the first visit, must inform the woman about the medical risks that termination of pregnancy brings, as well as the possible health problems of the medical intervention.
