The ecotourism project of Korça, which will give life to old buildings
Another building in Korça will be revived, to be put to the service of the administration of the Protected Areas of the Korça district and as a multifunctional center in the service of the community.
The Minister of Tourism and Environment Mirela Kumbaro was present at the event of the presentation of the project of architectural restoration and urban regeneration of new work spaces for the Regional Administration of Protected Areas in Korça.
"The district of Korça has natural and cultural beauty. With the Municipality of Korça, we discovered that there are several buildings that have been there for years as empty, unused spaces. The best way to make it profitable was through such a project called "Creativity", i.e. creativity, to revive old destinations that have had another use, giving them a new life through architectural creativity. We decided to give life to the building known in Korça as a former mortgage, not just as an office residence for the Regional Administration of Protected Areas, but much more than that, to create a new urban space within the city and the district of Korça as a destination with an educational role for children and young people, with a touristic role to explain to tourists what the region offers, but also as a space to develop events", she explained during her speech Godfather. This is a project of the Ministry of Tourism and Environment within the European program Interreg IPA: "Cultural and Creative Industries".
Next, Minister Mirela Kumbaro also mentioned the requalification of the Drilon-Tushemisht natural park, creating a complete map of ecotourism attractions in the Korça region.
"This is not the first such work in the Korça district, as a few months ago we were in Pogradec where we showed a good work in the protected areas in the Tushemisht-Drilon Park, where we carried out not only a retraining of the natural park, but also a new visitor center is taking shape there as an environment dedicated mainly to the Pogradec area and the Pogradec lake as part of UNESCO. This way we will have many more reasons to come to Korça and to bring the new generation to the entire Korça region", said Kumbaro.
The Mayor of Korça Sotiraq Filo said that this center will serve the whole city.
"It is a center that will have many elements, from awareness and education for children, to a museum where visitors can learn about the potential of protected areas. I believe it will be a further attraction that will be added to the city of Korça. Thanks to this project, when it is finished, we will be able to do another project to revitalize the former home of the Pioneers", said Filo.
4.9 million visitors visited protected areas throughout Albania during the period January-October 2024, or 20% more than a year ago, showing the interest of tourists in natural attractions and the extension of the tourist offer throughout the year.
