For the first time in Albania, a technique that avoids heart bypass is performed
For the first time in Albania, the modern intervention procedure that replaces the heart bypass has been performed. The medical procedure was carried out in Shkodra hospital.
"This modern and mini-invasive procedure was led by Asst. Prof. Aurel Toma, cardiologist with international experience, who is also head of the Department of Hemodynamics at Donau Hospital in Vienna and lecturer at the University of Vienna.
Thanks to his dedication and expertise, as well as the cooperation with the team of the Hemodynamics Service in Shkodër, the treatment of a chronic occlusion of the coronary artery through the "retrograde approach" was successfully carried out.
"This advanced technique eliminates the need for aorto-coronary bypass, providing an efficient and less invasive solution for patients. An important step for Albanian medicine, which brings international standards and practices to improve health care in the country, explains the Ministry of Health.
