Minister Xhaçka meeting with the Portuguese counterpart: Commitment for

Foreign Minister Olta Xhaçka held an online conversation with her Portuguese counterpart Augustos Santos Silva, regarding the priorities of the Portuguese presidency of the Council of the EU and enlargement.

Minister Xhaçka spoke about the reforms in Albania, as fulfillment of the EC requirements in March 2020.

Portugal is the country that has taken over the presidency of the EU Council for the period January 1, 2021 and June 30, 2021. Portugal will be committed to advance the work for the approval of the negotiating framework for Albania and the holding of the first intergovernmental conference within June.

According to the official announcement from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Portuguese chief diplomat said that the reforms undertaken so far by Albania are on the right track and that Portugal's interest is to increase the EU's credibility in the Western Balkans region.

At the end of their conversation, they focused on the pandemic and the commitment to finding imperative solutions, coping with the consequences and cooperating on vaccines.
