Lindita Nikolla in the march against violence against children: My involvement is the involvement of a mother
Speaker Lindita Nikolla has joined the March that is taking place today in Tirana against violence against children. From "Mother Teresa" square Lindita Nikolla said that not only the laws are enough, but also the awareness of the citizens is needed.
"My involvement is the involvement of a mother, a citizen and a parliamentary speaker to address this very serious problem. Each of us experiences the pain of losing a child, as if it were the loss of my child. Only in this way can we come together to prevent such phenomena. As an institution we are at an important moment. Parliament will work, but will also use this moment to have an exhaustive process from a legal point of view. "Laws need to be enforced, but we need a civic awareness of communities to denounce violence."
Nikolla stressed that the murder of the 8-year-old in Fier is a serious event which has shocked the whole society, adding that the return of the death penalty is not a proper decision.
"I am aware, these are strong emotional moments, Albania is definitely part of the EU, and honestly I do not think that this sentence and going back to this decision will be the right thing. "There are many other moments, but they are decisions that should not be taken in strong emotions", said Nikolla.
