Latest News / Bulgarian government falls, no veto decision on Northern Macedonia
The National Assembly in Bulgaria ousted the government of Prime Minister Kiril Petkov, thus hindering the decision to lift the veto on northern Macedonia.
Qeveria e Petkov nuk arriti t’i mbijetonte mocionit të mosbesimit të dorëzuar në Kuvend nga GERB për shkak të dështimeve ekonomike të qeverisë.
Bulgaria's 99th government with Prime Minister Kiril Petkov was elected on December 13, 2021. Prior to its formation, the country went to the polls three times, a record in Bulgaria's history, and only the parliament elected on November 15 managed to appoint a cabinet.
A major obstacle was the blockade of talks between Northern Macedonia and the European Union, which Sofia vetoed for its inconsistency with the 2017 neighborhood agreement, the hate speech, the destruction of Bulgarian cultural monuments and the falsification of Bulgarian history.
