Students who attack teachers in Italy risk fines ranging from 500 to 10,000 euros under a new law passed on Thursday.
Attacks on teachers have recently made headlines in Italy after a teacher was slightly injured after being stabbed in the back by a student.
Fines will be imposed on anyone who assaults staff members, principals or administrative personnel in Italian schools.
Fines will be paid to the school involved.
The "conduct grades" law is similar to a measure passed by Mussolini's fascist government in 1924.
Students who score five or less out of 10 in behavior will lose the year and must repeat it even if their academic standing is good.
High school students who score only 6 on the behavior score will be required to take a citizenship test.
Prime Minister Meloni said that the change will restore respect in schools.
