The father who held his daughter hostage at Hamburg airport surrenders after 18

The 35-year-old armed Turkish man who held his child hostage at the Hamburg airport has been handed over. The man kept his 4-year-old daughter hostage in his car for over 18 hours.

The police were negotiating all these hours with the 35-year-old with specialist psychologists. In fact, German officials warned that the airport would remain closed to takeoffs and landings until the hostage situation was resolved.

According to German media, the 35-year-old is of Turkish origin and allegedly had a dispute with the child's mother over custody and kidnapped the little girl on Saturday afternoon. Bild reported that the man wanted to travel with her to Turkey by plane.

The mother had earlier notified the police, denouncing the kidnapping of the child. The man fired two shots into the air, a federal police spokesman said. Air traffic at Hamburg airport was immediately suspended, while terminals were closed and dozens of flights were cancelled.
