Basha proposes 22 years in prison for politicians who buy votes
Democratic Party leader Lulzim Basha wrote in a Twitter post that he would propose changes to the Criminal Code to toughen penalties for politicians linked to the underworld for electoral gain.
According to Basha, a politician involved in criminal schemes for gaining votes should be sentenced to 22 years in prison.
In addition to vetting in politics, in order to put an end once and for all to the connections of the criminal world with politics, the DP will propose the amendment of the Criminal Code, in accordance with the Italian Criminal Code (n. 416 ter), toughening the sentences for anyone who commits crimes electoral.
1. Whoever directly or through intermediaries accepts the promise to win votes from elements of organized crime, in exchange for money or other favors, shall be punished by 15 years of imprisonment.
2. The same punishment is provided for elements of organized crime who have made such promises, or anyone else who is involved.
3. If the politician involved in such a scheme is elected, he is sentenced to 22 years in prison.
4. Politicians and anyone involved in such activities are permanently barred from exercising public functions.
The governance and fate of Albanians cannot be dictated by corruption and organized crime. The Democratic Party will do everything to make the voice of the Albanian citizens heard and their will respected.
