147 thousand tons of expired food from AKU are destroyed! 21% of controlled businesses were found to be in violation
The National Food Authority during the period June-July in food centers has destroyed 147,742 tons of food, mainly meat products in slaughterhouses and dairy, because it was identified that they were produced and traded without meeting the hygienic-sanitary conditions provided by AKU.
Also, this instance has destroyed 33,500 liters of non-consumable fruit juice due to low quality, 600 liters of beer and 572 kilograms of various products. Destructions occurred in 5741 field inspections throughout the country, of which 21% were identified as violations.
As a result, 1115 warnings and 1 fine in the amount of 650 thousand lek were administered.
Some of the most frequently identified violations were:
- Lack of renewal of staff health booklet
Lack of renewal of bacteriological analysis of water
- Non-compliance with the legal and regulatory framework of food safety
- Lack of hygienic conditions
- Problems with food expiration dates
At the end of these inspections, AKU inspectors have taken 767 samples of different food products based on the risk they pose to be entered in the analysis laboratory.
