It started with a comment on social networks, where the boy you see in the picture wrote: Albanian-Chinese love is an old story. And the American ambassador, surprised by this comment, invited him for coffee and a conversation.

The boy is called Fisart Imeraj, with whom the ambassador met, had a conversation with him, talked about the country they come from, the bitter past of Albanians in communism but also about the challenges of the future. Ambassador Yuri Kim posted a photo on Instagram with Fisart from Tropoja, where she tells more about their conversation:

Last week, Fisart made a comment about the "Albanian-Chinese friendship" that surprised me. So I invited him for coffee. He accepted. Today we sat outside in the sun and drank a coffee and had a very nice conversation about his comment, but much more. We talked about where we are from and how the country has shaped us from where we come from. (Fisart is from Tropoja, an area I fell in love with when I visited it a month ago; The birthplace of my ancestors is in the mountains of Korea, but I grew up on a tropical island). I learned a little more about Albania's past and was touched as Fisart told me how Enver Hoxha and the communists tried to control everything; finances, religion, housing, jobs, but they could never control people’s souls. We also talked about the challenges that Albanians regularly face and agreed that the rule of law and equality under the law are necessary so that all Albanians, not just the elite, have well-paying jobs, take care of their families. and fully contribute to the future of their country. It all started with a comment made as a joke innocently, but made possible a conversation (and an Albanian-American friendship!) That I hope will continue. Thank you, Fisart '!
