The US Embassy in Tirana recalls among photos the reopening of the doors in Albania as today 33 years ago
The Embassy of the United States in Tirana has remembered through two photos the event of 33 years ago when Albania and the USA restored relations. After the fall of communism, the embassies were also reopened. The US in Tirana reopened its doors on October 1, 1991.
"🇦🇱 In 1991, the US Embassy in Albania was reopened after more than 50 years of absence of diplomatic relations, which had been severed during World War II due to Albania's isolation under the communist regime. These relations were restored officially on March 15, 1991, in a ceremony held at the US State Department, marking an important moment in Albania's transition to democracy. The US Embassy in Tirana was reopened on October 1, 1991, with Christopher Hill who served as Chargé d'Affaires and later that year, William Edwin Ryerson became the first US Ambassador to Albania," writes the Embassy.
