11 people injured on the Lufthansa flight after severe turbulence
11 people were injured on a Lufthansa flight from Buenos Aires to Frankfurt due to turbulence.
"Unfortunately, five passengers and six crew members suffered mostly minor injuries," a Lufthansa spokesman said, adding that "the safety of the flight was at no time at risk."
After the plane landed safely at its scheduled destination at 10:53 a.m. on Nov. 12, all those injured received immediate medical treatment, the airline said.
The flight that encountered the turbulence was a Boeing 747-8, which had 329 passengers and 19 crew members on board. However, the turbulence was short-lived and occurred in an intertropical convergence zone.
Turbulence occurs when a bunch of air currents spin in different directions for a variety of reasons, such as temperature changes or storms. But what should you do to avoid more serious physical consequences:
Never stand up
Do not remove the seat belt
Do not leave the toilet
Never open the covers above your head
Do not leave the table open in front of your feet
Try not to panic
