Says France Football, Pierluigi Collina, the best "whistle" in history

Not just the "Dream Team Ballon d'Or". The famous magazine "France Football" has compiled a list of the 10 best referees in the history of football. The "whistle" that stands at the top of the list makes all Italians proud. It is about a big name like Pierluigi Collina, who is currently the chairman of the FIFA Referees Commission.

The Italian was preceded by the Englishman Ken Aston and the Frenchman Michel Vaurot. "When it comes to referees, the first name that comes to mind is his. "Since his debut in 1977, in farewell in 2005, Collina has written the history of football," reads between the lines in the article in the French magazine.

In his career, Collina has played 467 games, including the 2002 World Cup final. He was named the best referee in the world between 1998 and 2005 by the IFFHS, the World Federation of Football History and Statistics. The last match led by Collina was Villarreal-Everton in the Champions on August 29, 2005.

Since 2017 he has been the president of the FIFA Referees Commission, from 2010 to 2018 he was also the head of the UEFA Arbitration Commission before leaving the office to Roberto Rosetti. Since 2011 he is in the "Hall of Fame" of Italian football.
