UN poll: Albanians more pessimistic than the world, 46% expect 2045 to be worse

Albanians are more pessimistic than the world average when it comes to expectations for the future, according to a global survey conducted by the United Nations on the occasion of the 75th anniversary of the UN.

To the question "On the whole, do you think that people in 2045 will be better, worse, or the same compared to what they are today?", 46% of Albanians answered worse. This percentage is higher than the global average, with 32% of respondents globally responding that they think they are worse off.

37% of Albanians answered that they think people will be better, compared to almost 49% of the global average.

17% of Albanians think it will be the same, close to the global average of 19%.

"It is the duty of all actors in the country to work harder and give hope to young people - better services, better education opportunities, youth engagement in policy-making processes and employment opportunities," said Fiona McCluney. Permanent Coordinator of the United Nations Office in Albania, on the day of the Youth Discussion on "It is my UN".

"The COVID-19 pandemic has affected us all, everywhere. One of the groups most affected by the pandemic is undoubtedly the youth. I'm not just talking about the impossibility of having more participants here with us today. I am talking about education, community engagement and employment. Some of you may even have lost loved ones who have undergone the effects of COVID-19. Maybe you too, like about 90% of students worldwide, are facing dropouts. You may feel tired if you are looking for work in these times.

To the question "Looking at the long-term plan, if you imagine the world you want after 25 years, what are the three things you would like to see more"
42% answered More employment opportunities
36% answered More environmental protection
Courses 34% responded Better access to health care
45% of Albanians think people will be worse off in 2045.
"It is the duty of all actors in the country to work harder and give hope to young people - better services, better education opportunities, youth engagement in policy-making processes and employment opportunities," concluded the Permanent Coordinator. of the United Nations Office in Albania.
