The average age of Covid victims is increasing. Women die less

The average age of lives lost by Covid-19 in the country has been rising for the second month in a row, indicating that young age mortality has declined.

According to data reported daily by the Ministry of Health and processed by "Monitor", the average age of lives lost to the coronavirus until October 5, when there were a total of 400 victims was almost 69 years old.

On September 3, when a total of 301 victims were counted, the average age was 67.9 years.

Compared to the last processing on July 28, when the average age dropped to 66.8 years, as the virus began to descend to younger ages, there is an increase of 2 years.

Petrit Malaj, a pulmonologist, claims that on the one hand the virus has become less aggressive, and on the other hand it has increased the awareness of people who are inclined to be more protected.

Age group 70-79 years with the greatest fatalities

For the first time since the beginning of the pandemic, it is the 70-79 age group that has the greatest fatalities, with 30.75% of the total.

Previously, the largest loss of life belonged to a younger age group, from 60-69 years old, which until September 3 accounted for 32% of pandemic deaths (see graph: Deaths by age group, Albania,% to total). This age group is already second, with 30.2% of the total.

The 50-59 age group accounted for 14% of lives lost by 5 October, while those under 50 accounted for 5.5% of the total.

However, the real consequences of the pandemic in the country can only become clear when it ends or at the end of the year when the death toll is calculated compared to last year, as currently only the loss of lives from Covid-19 in hospital. Meanwhile, according to doctors, there are young people aged 40-50, who have refused to be hospitalized and lost their lives at home, or who have fled for treatment in Turkey and still can not cope.

Compared to Italy, the virus in Albania has affected young people more. The average age in Italy is 80 years old, compared to almost 69 years old in Albania.

In Italy, according to Il Sole24 ore, almost 60% of lives lost belong to the age over 80 years. In Albania, the respective weight is only 18.5%.

The average age of women who have lost their lives is 68.9 years, almost the same as that of men.

While the average age of males has remained almost unchanged since the onset of the pandemic, that of females has dropped significantly, from 77 years old in late April to almost 69 years old in October.
