Foods that have vitamin D and should be consumed in times of pandemics: Even for vegetarians
The future of the coronavirus vaccine looks uncertain, and many experts are disseminating various tips on how to protect and be healthy if we become infected. Vitamin D is among the supplements discussed many times after it was initially said that it had no effect on the coronavirus, but recent studies in Britain and America, have shown the opposite.
Health Minister Matt Hancock through the NHS, the UK's leading medical center has begun distributing messages and issuing instructions to citizens to consume vitamin D.
Recent research has found that proper levels of vitamin D in the body can reduce the risk of coronavirus disease, and increase the level of immune cells in the blood.
This means that people with high levels of vitamin D are less at risk of infection and serious illness and with a stronger immunity.
But if supplemental vitamins are an option, how can we get this vitamin through foods or products?
The main foods that are rich in vitamin D:
Fish with high nutrient content, such as salmon or sardines.
Red meat
Liver
Yellow egg
Fortified foods
For vegetarians:
Portabello fungus
Almond milk
Margarine
Soy milk.
It is recommended that everyone should take 10 micrograms of vitamin D - the equivalent of a salmon fillet - a day to keep bones and muscles healthy in the winter.
Other sources of vitamin D are sunlight.
