Rain highlights the rare archaeological site on Olympus

Heavy rains have facilitated the discovery of a small archeological site on Olympus, Greece, a finding that the Greek Ministry of Culture has considered "accidental".

It is a small bull-shaped bronze object that was discovered by archaeologists near the temple of Zeus covered in mud, but due to rainfall and erosion, one of its horns was exposed.

From the preliminary study it is believed that the object belongs to the Geometric period, ie it is from the years 1050-700 BC. Burning marks on it suggest that it was used as an object of worship in sacrificial ceremonies for Zeus.

The first Olympic Games in history took place in this region, where Greek city-states even in time of war, left behind the divisions between them and gathered to organize events and sports competitions, a practice that began around 393 BC.
