Earthquake in Greece marks first victim

An 83-year-old man named Christos Gekas and his wife were at their home in Greece when the 5.9 magnitude earthquake struck a few days ago. The elderly man was pulled from the rubble caused by the collapse of a part of the house and died at the hospital, where he was rushed to the rescue team.

Greek media have posted photos of the elderly man's house which was destroyed by the earthquake, while his wife escaped.

The tremors in Greece, with its epicenter in Larissa, have caused fear and panic among residents.

While seismologists have called for no returns inside homes that are damaged, because any other strong vibration could prove fatal.
