Greece may force private sector doctors to work in the country to help with the

Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis has announced today that he may order private sector doctors to dedicate several hours of work to the public sector in the ongoing battle against COVID-19.

"If necessary, I will use the last weapon that the constitution gives me, that of using temporary services ... I will not hesitate to do it" - said Mitsotakis in an interview for the daily "To Vima ”.

Greek hospitals are currently overcrowded with new COVID-19 infections and have almost exhausted capacity in all Greek hospitals both in terms of medical staff and number of beds.

Because of this situation a few days ago the health authorities in Greece called on private sector employees to volunteer to help saying they need about 200 more doctors. However, according to Greek state television ERT, only 55 doctors have volunteered for the task.

" I can not imagine how there are colleagues who have taken the oath of Hippocrates and do not want to come and help us in this battle" - said the Greek Minister of Health Vasilis Kikilias.
