Flat or progressive tax? Denaj: 97% of Albanians pay less than before

The Minister of Economy and Finance, Anila Denaj clarified tonight that those who are paid up to 30 thousand new lek will pay 0% tax, while he added that it has never been said by the government that in the context of tax increase will not have groups that will pay more.

Invited to "Open", Denaj stressed that 97% of Albanians have a lower tax than before.

She stressed that 97% of Albanians have reduced their fiscal burden.

"I will start with 2013 to remember that the policy of progressive taxation was before the vote of confidence. For 97% of Albanians it is a fact. We imposed a progressive tax that for all salaries under 30 thousand ALL was 0 ALL. We zeroed it in 2018, we made an improvement. A salary between 80 thousand if we subtract 30 thousand. 97% of Albanians have reduced their fiscal burden. We have never said that in the context of tax increases there will be no groups that will pay more, but most Albanians pay less. We have adhered to the principle that whoever gets paid more pays more. 9% flat tax, it was decided that 30 thousand would be exempt from taxation. The difference between what was paid in the past and what was paid now is 160 lek. The difference is just a coffee. The highest beneficiaries are those with higher incomes. The whole effect would be ALL 10.8 billion in this tax. "97% of Albanians have a lower tax than it was," said Denaj.
