New Zealand outlaws smoking for those born after 2004

An unusual law has been introduced by the government of the progressive Prime Minister of New Zealand, Jacinda Arden, as it has announced that it will make the purchase and consumption of cigarettes illegal for all citizens born after 2004.

The New Zealand government has justified this decision with the fact that 4500 people die every day in the world as a result of diseases created due to smoking. The objective is that by 2025 smoking has completely ceased on the island.

Meanwhile, the legal package also provides measures for those born before 2004, reducing the level of nicotine in cigarettes sold, as well as further increasing the price through tariffs and taxes.
