Minister 45 years old in Belgium in intensive treatment by Covid-19
Belgian Foreign Minister and former Prime Minister Sophie Wilmes has undergone intensive treatment due to the coronavirus. The 45-year-old, who held the post of prime minister three weeks ago, is in stable condition. In a statement on Saturday, before being admitted to hospital she said she had tested positive for Covid and that she had most likely been infected by a relative.
She led the country during the first 6 months of the pandemic but then her minority administration was replaced by the majority coalition.
Alexander De Croo, who took over as prime minister in early October, congratulated his predecessor on his recovery on Twitter: 'No one is immune to this virus. "Together, we will defeat COVID-19," he wrote.
Belgium is among the countries currently hit by the second wave of the pandemic.
