Ireland returns with stricter restrictions against coronavirus, the Prime Minister says that with this decision there is hope that everyone will celebrate Christmas properly. Under the new decision, as of midnight Wednesday, the Republic of Ireland enters Lockdown, one of the highest level 5 limitations of the coronavirus alarm. The lockdown will last 6 weeks, as a way to curb the spread of the coronavirus.

Under this decision, all businesses considered non-essential, such as barber and parlor salons as well as aesthetic treatments will be closed until 1 December. Restaurants and cafes will be allowed to operate only on order: Take your coffee or food and leave home!

Employees have to work from home, at least most of those who can!

People will be allowed to go out only 5 kilometers away from their home.

The number of guests at the wedding should not exceed 25 and maintaining the distance by 3 meters.

The decision is valid until the end of December. Schools and kindergartens will remain open, as well as primary sports activities.

Prime Minister Michael Martin said this evening that restoring the national blockade was not simply a realistic option, but a necessity because of the level of infection and the number of hospitalized, which should not be ignored.

'Even when winter comes, there will be hope and light. If we all pull together over the next six weeks, we will have the opportunity to celebrate Christmas in a meaningful way. We must persevere and we must be resilient. We will suppress this virus and get out of these restrictions on December 1st. '

The Prime Minister pledged to provide financial support to individuals and businesses in need, also stressing that mental health services will be a priority.

The decision to move to the fifth level was taken at a Cabinet meeting, following recommendations from health experts. Ireland recorded a record number of infections, with 1,031, bringing the total to more than 50,000 for the first time.
