The Specialized Chambers in The Hague have made public the indictment for war crimes against Hashim Thaçi, Kadri Veseli, Rexhep Selimi and Jakup Krasniqi.

This 68-page indictment was confirmed on October 26, 2020, the Specialized Chambers said.

The acts aggravated by Thaçi, Veseli, Selimi and Krasniqi are related to war crimes, illegal or arbitrary detention, cruel treatment, torture and illegal murder and crimes against humanity by imprisonment, other inhumane acts, torture, illegal murder, enforced disappearances and persecution, which, according to the Specialized Chambers, took place between March 1998 and September 1999.

According to the indictment, the crimes are suspected to have been committed in several locations in Kosovo, but also in Kukës and Cahan in northern Albania, and were committed by members of the Kosovo Liberation Army (“KLA”) against hundreds of civilians and persons not actively participating in hostilities ".

"The victims include persons suspected of being opponents of the KLA and later of the Provisional Government of Kosovo, namely: (i) Serbs, Roma and Ashkali; (ii) Catholics; (iii) civilians allegedly cooperating with the Serbian authorities or allegedly contacting Serbs; (iv) Albanians who were members or supporters of the Democratic League of Kosovo or other parties deemed to be against the KLA; (v) Albanians who did not join or support the KLA; and (vi) employed or formerly employed individuals considered to be against the KLA, ”the Special Chambers notice states.

The Specialized Chambers allege that for these crimes, Hashim Thaçi, Kadri Veseli, Rexhep Selimi and Jakup Krasniqi bear criminal responsibility as individuals based on various forms of criminal responsibility for the crimes presented in the indictment, “which were committed in the context of a conflict internationally armed forces in Kosovo and in the context of a widespread and systematic attack against persons suspected of being KLA opponents ”.

Thaçi, Veseli, Krasniqi and Selimi are in the detention center of the Specialized Chambers based in The Hague.

Krasniqi was transferred there on November 4, while Thaci, Veseli and Krasniqi traveled to The Hague on November 5.
