Minister Peleshi balances the damage from bad weather: 46 houses evacuated, two areas endangered by floods
About 8900 hectares of land were flooded and 46 dwellings were evacuated in the region of Lezha . This is the balance sheet made by the Minister of Defense Niko Peleshi and the former Minister of Agriculture regarding the damages caused so far by the heavy rains. He said the damage caused this year by floods compared to 2010 is many times lower. However, Minister Peleshi said that Albania is exposed to floods.
He mentioned in Euronews the two areas with the highest risk of floods:
We are in danger in the part of NënShkodra and in the Vjosa River. To keep a wild river in the middle of Albania, means to keep the bill of damages that may be. The Vjosa River has not risen from its bed and this is positive. Our country is exposed to floods. What we have in hand today is to be able to do our best.
As for Lake Fierza, he said that the situation is under control:
Many rivers have fallen into their bed. We have high inflows in the Drini cascade. Fierza worked with closed gates. Rainfall has decreased, but Fierza is filling up fast, and we have to say that. We still have a reserve of a few meters in Lake Fieza. The weather is getting colder, the snow is starting, the temperatures are lowering and there is no flow in the following days, which gives us the opportunity to produce in Fierza. So far the management has been perfect by KESH, which has given us a hand to avoid damage.
