Linda Rama: The myth that the war is for men fell with COVID!
The wife of Prime Minister Rama, Linda Rama participated in the Summit "Women's Leadership in the highly competitive world of the post-Covid era" organized online by ICYF.
Below is Linda Rama's full speech:
Despite the regret that we have to make this beautiful communication at a distance, this nevertheless remains a beautiful assembly for which the organizers deserve admiration and thanks!
Leadership, woman, world, competition actually come with a common denominator. That of the centuries-old battles of the past to achieve many things that for our grandparents was unimaginable; but also for the challenges of the future that are the daily battles of today.
While covid, it will long remain in our memory and in our reflections as the most prominent moment of woman power in the world of work.
There are in this Covidian year an infinity of heroin women in hospitals and health centers, who stand by their heads and vaccinate an infinity of people every day, who work for the manufacture of vaccines and other drugs, who study, analyze and comment on the front of this war. illuminating the path of the future. An excellent example of this is undoubtedly the founder of BioNTech, Mrs. Ozlem Tureci, to whom the whole world today owes the salvation of millions of lives.
There are also an infinity of teachers who with admirable dedication in new, extremely challenging conditions, keep uninterrupted the flow of acquiring knowledge for our children. There are even more women who have kept the chain of work connected for more than a year, in the face of the chain of infections that challenges our daily life, threatening the continuity of life for every corner of us! These are the heroine women of the Covidian battle that the world will long remember!
I was also drawn to this invitation by the audience, hundreds of well-educated women and girls with undergraduate and postgraduate degrees from 45 countries around the world and just as representative from the world of civic activism. Allow me to convey to everyone the expression of my admiration and respect for who you are, what you do and what you radiate around you, making the world a better place thanks to your presence and contribution!
I come from a Muslim family. I am married to Edin, who is Catholic. Our two children from the previous marriage are Orthodox Christians and the third, our six-year-old son, will choose for himself which religion he will belong to, if he wants to make this choice one day of course. This is in fact the Albania of inter-religious harmony, of which we Albanians are proud. And because of this, in our house are the holy books of the Qur'an and the Bible where the same message is given that whoever saves a life, has saved all mankind! Fate brought in this covidian year to see not one, but an army of men in the salvation of life and of all mankind, and women at their forefront!
I am an economist. But the economist instinct is not the strongest instinct I have. Remains much stronger within me the instinct of mother and wife with an interest that extends beyond self and family, in matters of public interest, with the constant desire to find a way to be useful in them. For me the model of a professionally successful woman is very important, but it is by no means enough. And today, on the first front of the war with covid for the salvation of human lives, it is first the instinct of mother, daughter and wife that precedes the professionalism of the doctor, nurse, nurse, teacher, entrepreneur, scientist. In this ruthless battle, it is precisely this instinct that does not let them get tired, bored, give up.
Albania today has a vanguard balance of gender representation. 9 points higher than the European average in terms of the presence of women in the highest levels of public decision-making, equal to the European average in the percentage of women in parliament, more women than men ministers in the government cabinet, public administration over 60% women , women even at the top of justice institutions, prosecutors and judges and of course more and more successful models of women entrepreneurs or at the highest levels of private administration.
But as we rejoice in the ascent of women to the pinnacle of public and private decision-making, tens of thousands of other women look forward to seeing there, at the pinnacle of political and economic power, first an activist rather than a bureaucrat. Expecting to pulsate powerfully in the high chair of power or on the high throne of professionalism and entrepreneurship, as for the heroine women in the Covidian battle, the instinct of the mother and woman who in the competitive world fight for justice, reject harshness, condemn violence, opens the path of opportunity for others, heals wounds, extends the hand, inspires, motivates, supports without giving up.
The post-pandemic world will be a world that will require more assembly, more balance of challenges, more listening to a variety of problems, more social responsibility for individuals in need, more gentleness, more people, more much sensitivity to the environment, less greed and confrontation for domination. You understand better than anyone the value of this Qur'anic injunction: "Do not seek what Allah has bestowed on one in excess of others: men's share, women equally, all their share" (Surat an-Nisa ') , 4; 32).
There has been a myth, as old as the world itself, that war is only for men! The women’s army on the first front of the battle with COVID-19 proved that women are powerful fighters and always victorious!
Good luck to all and each of you!
