January frost with relations with the EU, Soreca appears on VOA! Surprised with

'The strategy and direction set by the EU to invest in the Covax scheme has turned out to be still today an indefinite direction in time'. This was the statement of Prime Minister Rama where he criticizes the EU for providing vaccines for Albania. The first doses of the vaccine in Albania have arrived, but the Prime Minister decided not to tell from which country, although he added that one day he hopes to say and thank.

Asked about Rama's criticism of the EU approach to vaccines, EU Ambassador Luigi Soreca said he was surprised by the statement and that Albania should have a vaccination plan: 'But we must understand that Albania must prepare a vaccination plan for enable the EU to intervene, but also Covax, later in the year, to continue vaccination. This is not a single moment, the vaccination plan will take months'.

The EU Ambassador in Tirana mentioned the EU solidarity with the situation after the earthquake. He also spoke in figures: The European Union gathered so many actors to make available to Albania more than 1 billion euros and immediately 115 million euros from the European Commission!

Excerpts from an interview with VOA:

VOA: Mr. Ambassador, Prime Minister Edi Rama has been critical of the European Union's stance on Albania and the region on the vaccine supply process. A comment from you?

Ambassador Soreca: I have to admit that we were surprised by the statement made by the Prime Minister at the beginning of the year, especially since the solidarity of the European Union has never been as visible as in 2020. A few days later we have the first anniversary of the Donors' Conference in Brussels, after the tragic earthquake of November 2019, when the European Union gathered so many actors to make available to Albania more than 1 billion euros and immediately 115 million euros from the European Commission, which now, after a year, are giving concrete results in the field, in the fields of culture and education.

Pavarësisht kësaj, jemi gati t’i japim ndihmë Shqipërisë. Dje Shqipëria nisi vaksinimin, dhe ne jemi gati t’i japim ndihmën tonë Shqipërisë.

I have met with the Minister of Health, I will also meet the ambassadors of the Member States, to work together, to make sure that in the coming weeks there are more vaccines available to Albanian citizens. But we must understand that Albania must prepare a vaccination plan to enable the EU to intervene, but also Covax, later in the year, to continue vaccination. This is not a single moment, the vaccination plan will take months in order to cover the entire community here. So the European Union is here, as it has been with the Albanians all along.
