Balluk's meeting with AlbControl employees fails: What is happening in Rinas
As of yesterday, the controlling employees of AlbControl have joined the protest, submitting several demands:
- Return of colleagues to work who are allegedly unfairly removed;
- Repeal of board decisions;
- Return of full salary according to the collective agreement;
- Full financial transparency for 2020;
- A union member to be a board member.
Last year the AlbControl board cut salaries by 62% for 65 controllers.
Due to the protest today that lasted from 09:23 until 09:55 in the morning, two flights were affected. A plane that was supposed to land around this time zone, has returned again to the departure destination in Athens. The flight with Air Albania to Istanbul-Tirana was also affected. The plane arrives 40 minutes late.
This is the first time that AlbControl controllers have come out in protest. They have also signed a statement saying that they are not able to work if their conditions are not met, also mentioning the constant stress they have experienced, also affected by the coronavirus pandemic.
The Minister of Infrastructure and Energy, Belinda Balluku went to Rinas to meet with the controllers of AlbControl and the solution through an agreement, but the talks according to the television media have failed.
Some of the 65 controllers in total, after meeting with Balluku, stated that they have not reached any agreement and that the suspension of work will continue until their conditions are met.
Meanwhile, the Independent Air Traffic Control Union (SPKTA) has published a statement regarding the current situation of air traffic management in Albania, after they decided to protest.
